Horizon Oil Sands, north of Fort McMurray, is an exciting part of our growth. Horizon Oil Sands operations started in February 2005 and after years of planning and construction, the Horizon Oil Sands successfully and sustainably produced its first barrels of high quality, sweet synthetic crude oil (SCO) in early 2009. First production of SCO was a major milestone for Canadian Natural and we are very pleased with the success of the project. With Phase 1 production capacity of 110,000 bpd, this is just the first step in value creation.  Looking to the future, our assets support 232,000 – 250,000 barrels per day of light, sweet, crude oil production for over 40 years, with no production declines.

This position is based in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Position Summary

SCOPE:
Reporting to the Manager, Mine Maintenance the Reliability Engineer is a key member of the mining team:
• Support the maintenance goals and objectives by utilizing the Canadian Natural computerized maintenance programs to develop and monitor the mining equipment maintenance health plan.
• As an integral part of Mine Operations, the Mine Maintenance group is tasked with the continuing reliability and availability of all assets within Mining. 

KEY AREA OF CONTRIBUTION:
• Gather, manage and analyze information from on-board vehicle systems.
• Use predictive maintenance tools such as oil analysis to assist in the equipment management process.
• Responsible for equipment and component failure analysis and for providing quality technical reports on component failures as well as reporting on fleet performance of contracted fleets.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Participate in initializing the Mine Maintenance Strategy along with Maintenance Planning methodology, accomplished through the maintenance plan, which supports the safe, effective and productive activities of Mine Operations by setting the maintenance schedules and identifying the supporting resources to guide the activities of maintenance supervision and staff.
• Liaise with other personnel within the Mine Operations and Mine Maintenance Group, and also with other supporting departments on the Horizon Project Site, including Loss Prevention, Security, Common Services, IT, Warehousing, and Accounting, as well as the contracted suppliers providing direct maintenance parts and support. 
• Assist in providing information for weekly and monthly reporting requirements.
• Communicate with maintenance tradesmen, clerks, management and supervision, mine operations management and supervision, and warehouse and procurement staff.
• Participation in regular meetings between Maintenance and Operations to review equipment availabilities and reliability issues.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:
Education & Experience:

•The successful applicant will possess a University Degree (preferably in Mechanical Engineering) with 3 – 5 years relevant experience.
•A working knowledge of computer maintenance planning programs and be competent in the application of the Microsoft Office Applications.
•The candidate will have a minimum of 5 yers experience in heavy equipment design, manufacturing or maintenance in an industrial environment such as in mining or oil and gas.
•Will possess experience with commercial contracts and have experience within the oil sands mining and heavy equipment maintenance sector.
