SCOPE: • The Electrical Engineer will be an essential source of expertise, providing professional guidance and technical support in the construction and operations of the Horizon Oil Sands. • This position will hold accountability for design, construction, integrity and operations, in addition to the ongoing development of electrical standards and specifications for Horizon.
KEY AREA OF CONTRIBUTION: • Be responsible for preparing detailed engineering including cost estimates for work proposals and review of bid packages to contribute to increasing CNRL cost efficiency and production • Develop, review and communicate electrical engineering plans within the Project and coordinate work efforts with other areas of the Project • Review, develop and provide input for all engineering standards and specifications relating to electrical equipment for the Project • Provide engineering support and guidance while working with management, engineering, business development and contractor personnel for all phases of the Project including design, construction, commissioning and operation • By making recommendations for changes to both new and existing structures, and through reviewing and auditing project work, you will assist in improving reliability, safety operability and maintainability
PROJECT ASSIGNMENT: Project assignment during 2010-2011 to EPC contractor’s home office in any of the following locations: Italy or the United States.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: • Provide direction and design review for electrical systems for all phases of the project including conceptual design, detailed design, construction, and commissioning and start-up • Development and review of project design standards and specifications, equipment data sheets, plant layouts • Bid package preparation and in the review of the various bids for EPC phase of the project • Work with EPC’s in the development of all engineering deliverables, EDS and Detailed Engineering related to area of specialty • Ensure construction conforms to the approved Construction Work Package plans and specifications • Review electrical systems in various services of the Upgrading and Bitumen Productions plants
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION: Education & Experience: • A degree in Electrical Engineering with registration as a professional engineer in Alberta or eligibility for registration • 10+ years experience in electrical engineering design • Experience working with equipment on heavy oil upgraders, large oil refining facilities or petrochemical plants as well as hands on electrical engineering knowledge with respect to Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems, business communication protocols and process control a definite asset • Past experience working through the commissioning and start up of a plant facility
