SCOPE: • Reporting to the Engineering Instrumentation Lead this position will play a key role in the maintainability of our Utilities & Services and Upgrading facility. • By leading reliability and maintenance engineering initiatives, the Instrumentation Engineer will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution within Utilities & Services and the Upgrading.
KEY AREA OF CONTRIBUTION: • Provide technical support as a maintenance engineer to troubleshoot instrumentation and electrical systems. • Lead reliability initiatives such as reliability-centered- maintenance, root cause failure analysis, bad actor reviews and maintenance improvement projects. • Contribute to the maintainability of our Utilities & Services and Upgrading facility. • Generate scope of work for maintenance to install, repair and/or modify plant equipment • Participate actively with contractor(s) in the development of all engineering deliverables on time and on budget • Ensure that all Canadian Natural applicable standards, best practices, specifications and regulations are met
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: • Support Maintenance and Operations during routine operations, plant outages, and turnarounds • Assist Integrity Engineers, Inspectors, Process engineers, and Maintenance Leads to develop equipment integrity programs using risk based inspection initiatives • Implement Management of Change initiatives, indentify small projects and develop scope of work for execution • Initiate and lead small plant replacement, improvement and modification projects • Provide deliverance for small capital projects including budget and cost estimation preparation • Foster a productive and open communication and act as a technical link with other project teams and other Horizon business units that may influence or may be influenced by our activities
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: • Perform Inspections, generate reports and recommendations in conjunction with maintenance specialists and inspectors to ensure equipment condition assessments are completed and follow up completed • Generation of work scopes for maintenance, repairs and modification of plant equipment • Development and review of project design standards and specifications, equipment data sheets as well as plant layouts to ensure maintenance and reliability requirements have been addressed for repairs, plant changes and major equipment purchases • Develop efficient and effective alternative plans, jointly with maintenance personnel, to comply with demands for low cost and timely repair/modifications of process equipment
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION: Education & Experience: • The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years experience in an instrumentation engineering and/or supervisory role in a maintenance or operating environment working in an oil sands facility • Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred • Registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional engineer in Alberta is required • Diverse instrument engineering knowledge obtained through hands on in experience in an operating facility
