SCOPE: Horizon Oil Sands is seeking a Process Engineer to provide technical expertise in supporting the projects, operations and maintenance on the expansions of the Ore Prep and Extraction plants which are part of Bitumen Production area. Reporting to the Process Lead, OPP/Extraction: • The key focus for this role is to foresee, predict and recommend solutions in the processing area - optimizing plant operation • The successful candidate will utilize their previous hands on experience and analytical abilities to assist in establishing the foundation for Horizon phases 2/3.
PROJECT ASSIGNMENT: Project assignment during 2010-2011 to EPC contractor’s home office in any of the following locations: Calgary, Edmonton or Vancouver.
KEY AREAS OF CONTRIBUTION: •Review the EDS design and provide constructive feedback to the EPC’s; •Fully utilize your solid background in process engineering working with the OPP / Extraction Process Engineering and Operation’s teams. •Provide support for the development of phases 2/3 within a cross-functional team of seasoned professionals from all over the world.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: •Continuously use your technical expertise and practical experience to troubleshoot, improve efficiencies and advise others. •Utilize your strong analytical mind set to predict, identify and resolve processing issues.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: •Review process and technical activities by the EPC during the detailed engineering stage; •Support the coordination and exchange of information among the various project, operations, maintenance and technical groups; •Support of the Heat and Material Balances, Design Criteria, Process Flow Diagrams, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams; •Contribute to and review the development of the process design participate in Hazard and Operability reviews; and •Support and participate in major sustaining and capital projects and •Experience with PI, AFT Fathom, Bilmat is preferred
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION Education and Experience: •Engineering degree in Mineral Processing, Chemical or Metallurgy •Eligible for Registration as Professional Engineer in Alberta •3 years of direct Oil Sand experience 0r 5-10 years as a Process Engineer in a mineral processing plant, mining or related industry •Solid plant engineering and operating experience and •A proven track record in optimizing process plants, managing projects and budgets •Deep knowledge of slurry lines is an asset
