SCOPE: • As part of the Horizon Projects team, the Static Equipment Engineer will: design, review and maintain all engineering standards and specifications relating to pressure vessels, heat exchangers and other static equipment contributing to the future growth of the Horizon Oil Sands operation. • Due to the size and scope of the Horizon Project, this individual will have significant flexibility in determining his/her career path, with options for advancement in operations, maintenance or continuing with new growth projects.
PROJECT ASSIGNMENT: Project assignment during 2010-2011 to EPC contractor’s home office in any of the following locations: Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Italy or the United States.
KEY AREA OF CONTRIBUTION: Opportunity to work in a technically challenging role with exposure to a wide range of large equipment within the various departments of the Horizon Oil Sands: • Development and Control of Engineering Standards and Specifications • Technical Support in the field of Static Equipment • Providing direction to and reviewing work of the EPC house
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Engineering Manager the successful candidate will: • Develop/design, review and maintain all engineering standards and specifications relating to pressure vessels, heat exchangers and other static equipment for the project. • Provide direction and design review of all pressure equipment for compliance with Canadian Natural standards, ASME Code, Province of Alberta regulations and industrial standards, for all phases of the Horizon Oil Sands. • Review and coordinate the inspection and maintenance of all pressure equipment in accordance with the provincial pressure equipment safety programs. You will act as the liaison between the Alberta Boilers Safety Association and the Horizon Oil Sands. • Provide technical support in selecting materials and prescribing specifications for the design, repair and alteration of pressure equipment as required by codes or regulatory bodies. • Provide technical support to the pressure safety valve database and other technical records as required to support reliability and integrity efforts, or as required by regulatory bodies. • Maintain effective communication with all Discipline Lead Engineers, Project Engineers from other Project Teams, the Construction Team, The EPC Contractor Team and fabrication contractors, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION: Education & Experience: • Strong technical experience in stationary equipment, particularly with pressure vessels and heat exchangers • A minimum of 10 years experience, 8 of which should be working in the Oil and Gas industry • Engineering degree with registration as a Professional Engineer in Alberta (or eligible for registration) • Experience working in a fabrication environment would be an asset. • Experience with pressure vessel design according to ASME Section VII Div. 1 and Div. 2 • Experience in risk based inspection programs would be an advantage.
Experience with ABSA registration process.
